All good things must come to an end… This is a game the Phantoms would have won if they had been able to complete the game. Due to a game duration rule technicality, the 6th inning wasn’t completed and the result is that we lost the game.
The Phantoms held the lead for most of the game, but TE Briggs took advantage of a couple errors made and had the lead in the 4th inning. But we fought back to overtake them 10 – 8 in the top of the sixth.
We should have had the time to complete the game since we started the 6th at 8:38. TE Briggs took their sweet time to change out 3 pitchers in the sixth so we couldn’t field. We were going to purposely strike out our guys once we had the lead to get to the bottom half, but by then it was too late since we had 4 minutes left. The ump called the game at 8:55 sharp and the game reset to the previous score.
In my mind, the team Coldwell Banker won the game. They just didn’t have a game to play the next day. Even Coach Ryan of 3D Roofing was surprised of the outcome and would have had us complete the game had he been there since we still had 10 minutes left before the lights shut out.
It was a privilege to coach the Coldwell Banker Phantoms this Spring. This club had all the pieces and became a really great team at the end of the season. It was a nice run and I hope next years team is just as fun!
Final Score: Coldwell 5(10) – TE Briggs 8
